Derby County (also well-known as the Rams) is an English football club based in Derby, England. The team is a current member of Premier League. The first home ground of the club was the Baseball Ground. In 1997 Pride Park Stadium became a new home. It is located in Pride Park business park on the outskirts of Derby. This football (soccer) stadium holds 33,597 spectators. Derby has plans to expand the capacity to 44,000 for the 2008–2009 season, subject to retaining their Premiership status. The chairman of the club is Adam Pearson and the manager is William McIntosh "Billy" Davies. Billy Davies is a former football player. He played in such clubs as: Rangers, IF Elsborg, St Mirren, Leicester City, Dunfermline Athletic and Motherwell. His career of a manager started at Motherwell club, then was Preston North End. In 1884 the club began it's life as an off-shoot of Derbyshire County Cricket Club. At first they wanted to name themselves Derbyshire County FC, but the local football association forced them to shorten the name and the team choosed "Derby County FC". The Rams took part in the premier British football competition of that time: the FA Cup and became a founder member of the Football League in 1888. The clubs original colours were amber, chocolate and blue. In 1890 the traditional colours of the kit became black and white and they are still in use today. Derby County FC has an academy that is one of the best in the Europe. It is the Moor Farm training complex in Oakwood that has world class training facilities and also boasts a gym and restaurant. It was built at a cost of £5.2 million. The complex is worthy of notice for producing young stars such as: Tom Huddlestone, Lee Camp, Lewin Nyatanga and Giles Barnes.
